Personal Reason behind "dream day" "Dream Day" really inspired me because of my background information. I was born and adopted in Kirov, Russia when I was three years old. I had the wonderful opportunity to receive a second chance at life outside of poverty, and hopelessness. After seeing the "Dream Day" project I knew this was the organization I wanted to partner and work with. Project Dream Day was all made possible by Taylor Dickerson and Lauren Wiggins, NPHS students who started the project during the 2016-17 school year. So what is "Dream Day"? Dream Day is about supporting and recognizing kids who don’t normally get recognition. Dream Day focuses on fulfilling students with special needs wishes that must be manageable. I got my personal "Dream Day" after being adopted by my wonderful and loving parents. I want to be able to give back, and show my appreciation by sharing my story, and helping others in the same situation as mine any way I can. My mind began to race thinking of the all the wonderful lives my group and I would be able to change/impact. This legacy project left me with an incredible idea that would be able to tie my roots in, as well as continue the original project as well. I thought we could give those in orphanages, foster homes, or group homes their own "Dream Day". My team and I began to do some research and found some numbers we could call. We were ecstatic, and couldn't wait to dive right in. Before we got too ahead of ourselves, Mr. Large gave us an idea. He told us we should continue the original "Dream Day" at the school, as well as try to draw in other district schools first. Doing this would give us a foundation, as well as experience before we went out of our community. A week ago we met with the special needs students to discuss what their dream day would look like. We wanted to hit the students we didn't get to last year and the following year before that so we could give everyone a fair and equal chance. After talking with them we were able to come up with some dream day plans. We are now arranging our first dream to come true. Proposal and pitch dayBefore our pitch we needed to get things organized. We came up with our future goals, and what we needed to prepare for. First we scheduled a time to meet with the special needs class. Then we had students fill out a “wish list”. We determined which wishes should be worked on first due to holiday, or birthdays. And finally send home permission slip with student/give their parents our contact information. We are planning on getting grants, as well as donations for things such as tickets, or passes. Currently we are working on getting a VIP pass for a Christian concert coming up in November. That is one of the students dream, and we would like to fill it with joy, memories, and fun. We don't really have a specific timeline per-say, we just want to fill as many dreams as possible in the year we have with Mr. Large and the ABM program.
Presenting to administration was a little pressuring, but all in all good for us. We got to share our ideas, get some input/ideas, and hear what fallacies we still have and need to overcome to make this years project "Dream Day" even more successful. We got some really good feedback and a possible connection to help bolster the program.
